FAQs
Am I Really Pregnant?
Pregnancy is unique to each woman, and so are pregnancy symptoms. You may experience all or none of the common symptoms of early pregnancy. However, the most common sign of pregnancy is a missed period. Other common signs include:

- Mood Swings
- Nausea/vomiting
- Spotting
- Tender/swollen breasts
If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, you could be pregnant. However, taking a pregnancy test is the only way to know for sure. Our clinic offers a medical-grade urine pregnancy test at no cost to you.
How Long Will My Appointment Take?
If an ultrasound is included, you can anticipate being at our clinic for about 60-90 minutes for your first appointment.
Do I Need to Bring Anything to My Appointment?

- Is the pregnancy in the uterus (and not ectopic)?
- Is your pregnancy viable/living?
- How far along is your pregnancy?
How Much Will My Appointment Cost?
All of our services are at no cost to you.
Our priority is that you receive the skilled medical care and support you need when you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy.

Yes, Corbella Clinic is a medical clinic with licensed registered nurses and a licensed medical director. You will be compassionately cared for by our medical professionals, who undergo extensive training and continuing education to provide you with high-quality, skilled pregnancy medical care.
Abortion Pill In-Depth
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the abortion pill through 70 days (10 weeks) of pregnancy. A medical/chemical abortion procedure uses two drugs to terminate a pregnancy. The first medication ends the pregnancy by blocking the hormone progesterone. This causes the fetal heart to stop and the pregnancy to detach from the uterine lining. Up to 48 hours later, the second medication is taken, which causes strong uterine cramping to expel the embryo/fetus and pregnancy tissue.
Before Taking The Abortion Pill
We recommend scheduling a pregnancy screening and ultrasound appointment for your health and safety.
A pregnancy screening appointment is critical because it reduces risk to your health and equips you with information unique to you and your pregnancy so you can make a fully informed decision.
A pregnancy screening appointment includes time with our licensed medical staff, a medical-grade pregnancy test, a limited obstetrical ultrasound, and STI/STD testing. The four essential purposes for this appointment are:
- Confirming that you have a viable pregnancy.
- Determining gestational age and available options.
- Testing to be sure you don’t have an STI (sexually transmitted infection).
- Supporting you and answering all of your questions.
To protect your emotional, psychological, and physical health, before proceeding with an abortion it is important to have all the information mentioned above.
Side Effects and Risks
According to the Cleveland Clinic, the side effects of a medical/chemical abortion are:
- Vaginal bleeding
- Intense cramping
- Nausea and vomiting
- Fever
- Chills
- Diarrhea
- Headache
Like all medical procedures, medical/chemical abortion does have risks. The Cleveland Clinic also reports the following risks of medical/chemical abortion:
- Allergic reaction to the abortion medications
- Incomplete abortion
- Heavy bleeding that will not stop
- Infection
- Fever
- Diarrhea and digestive pain
Unplanned Pregnancy Options
Abortion
If you are considering abortion, there are a few abortion types available, including surgical abortions and medication (or the abortion pill). The cost of an abortion and the availability of each will depend on how far along you are in your pregnancy. Our team will help you to understand the facts about your abortion options, abortion side effects, and abortion risks.
While First Care Women’s Health does not perform or refer women for elective abortions, we are here to provide the judgment-free care you need so you can make the best decision possible for you. We do offer a free pre-abortion screening for women who are considering this option.

Women Caring For Women
I am incredibly grateful to Corabella Clinic for their care and support. I had a wonderful experience with them, starting with my first ultrasound to ensure everything was okay with my pregnancy. They provided me with so much helpful information and even followed up by phone every few months to check on how things were going. Before my delivery, they reached out again and generously offered some items for the baby. Highly recommend!
Anastasiia S.
I had a great experience with South Elgins Corbella Clinic during my pregnancy. The staff were very supportive and helpful with this very unexpected change in my life. I can’t thank them enough for their generosity gifting me baby goods and a car seat.
Karina R.
Everyone is super friendly and inviting. My nurse (Julia) was amazing from the beginning. I came here when I was 10 weeks along to get my first ultrasound and she had kept in contact with me throughout my pregnancy to check in to make sure baby and I were healthy. Corbella clinic is very helpful for first time moms, such as myself. I just picked up my gift basket that they provide for free. They asked what I thought I needed most (diapers, wipes, etc) which is incredible. Highly recommend

- Ultrasound assessment to determine gestation and viability.

What if I Have an Ectopic Pregnancy?
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg implants somewhere other than the uterus. Most often, it implants in the fallopian tube. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, ectopic pregnancies account for approximately 2% of all reported pregnancies. The abortion pill will not end an ectopic pregnancy.
Am I Pregnant?
A positive pregnancy test should never be the only factor in making an abortion decision. Learn more about first signs of pregnancy/pregnancy symptoms here . How do you know if you’re really pregnant? The only true confirmation of a pregnancy in with an ultrasound that is reviewed and signed by a physician. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists estimates that early pregnancy loss is common, occurring in about 10% of recognized pregnancies. Many losses occur before a woman’s pregnancy is confirmed by ultrasound. If a pregnancy is not viable, an abortion is not necessary.
We offer FDA-approved, laboratory-quality pregnancy tests. If your test is positive, you can be evaluated by a member of our medical staff to receive confirmation of pregnancy by limited obstetric ultrasound – all at no charge. The ultrasound is necessary to confirm an intrauterine pregnancy, fetal cardiac activity, and how far along you are.

What Type of Abortion Should I Get?
During your visit to First Care Women’s Health, you’ll learn how far along you are through an ultrasound that would determine the type of abortion that may be performed. A trained, licensed medical professional who puts you first will explain the associated risks for the various procedures.
Common Types of Abortion Include:
- Abortion Pill
- Suction /Aspiration Abortion
- Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) before viability
- Dilation and Evacuation after viability
The most common early symptoms of pregnancy often include:
- Missed period (amenorrhea) – For women who have regular menstrual cycles, if your period is one week late or more, you might be pregnant. This pregnancy symptom is not a reliable sign of pregnancy if you have irregular cycles.
- Tender or swollen breasts – In early pregnancy, the hormones estrogen, progesterone, and prolactin are elevated and often make the breasts/nipples sore due to tissue swelling.
- Nausea with or without vomiting – Morning sickness or all day sickness usually begins 1-2 months after conception. Some women never feel nauseated, while some women struggle with it their entire pregnancy. The cause of this nausea isn’t clear, but it may be caused by pregnancy hormones.
- Increased urination – Due to the increased amount of blood in your body during pregnancy, your kidneys will have to process extra fluid that ends up as urine in your bladder, leading to more frequent urination.
- Fatigue – Fatigue is a very common early symptom of pregnancy. A rapid rise in progesterone may contribute to this fatigue. Your body is now supporting two lives, taking more energy.
- Moodiness – Mood swings including being emotional and weepy are common due to the rush of hormones in early pregnancy.
- Bloating – These hormonal changes can also make you feel bloated like you may feel at the start of a menstrual period.
- Light spotting – Spotting can be caused by implantation bleeding and happens when the fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus, about 2 weeks after conception. Not all women experience this spotting.
- Mild cramping – Mild, period-like cramps can be normal in early pregnancy.
- Constipation – Your digestive system can slow down due to hormonal changes, leading to constipation. The iron in your prenatal vitamin can also contribute to this.
- Food aversions – During pregnancy, your sense of smell and taste may be heightened. Foods you usually enjoy might not be appealing, and you may be more sensitive to certain odors. Hormonal changes are the cause of these changes and most other symptoms of pregnancy.
- Nasal congestion – A stuffy or runny nose is not uncommon due to increased blood production during pregnancy. The mucous membranes in your nose may swell and be congested or dry out and bleed easily.
